BERLIN (MNI) – German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s center-right
CDU/CSU-FDP government coalition on Wednesday decided to schedule the
vote in the Bundestag, the lower house of parliament, on the Greek aid
package for this Friday.
Germany’s largest opposition party, the center-left SPD, failed in
its attempt to delay the vote until next week.
The Social Democrats wanted to have more time to assess the planned
aid measures for Greece in detail. “We have significant doubts about
whether the bill conforms to the law,” explained Carsten Schneider, the
SPD’s parliamentary budget speaker.
