Remember the headlines on Monday of how the RBA had been hacked? And the later media release from the RBA?
It appears the attack was an example of “spearphishing” (yeah, thats how the techies spell it).
- Occurred on November 16 and 17, 2011
- an email titled “Strategic Planning FY2012″ apparently sent to some staff, opened by six of them, which potentially compromised their desktops
- There was a virus attached to the email, activated by clicking on a link in the email
- The infected computers did not have administrator privileges, so damage was contained
- Damaged computers were repaired within the day
