Bernanke is speaking at 3:30 ET on Friday (20:30 GMT) just 90 minutes before FX closes for the weekend.
He isn’t scheduled to deliver a speech, rather he will appear on a panel at the IMF with Larry Summers, former Bank of Israel Governor Fischer and Harvard professor Ken Rogoff (of ‘This Time is Different’ infamy).
There is no indication Bernanke will speak about the current outlook but the moderator is likely to give him a chance and Bernanke doesn’t usually shy away. I don’t expect him to make any especially bold pronouncements because he’s savvy to the markets and smart enough to avoid a jolt late in the week.
About 30 minutes after the panel begins, San Francisco Fed President Williams delivers a separate speech on the economy and monetary policy.
