There are many reports that traders look at the colour of the tie worn by a central banker to get a gauge of optimism/pessimism and bullishness/bearishness.
For example, the colour of the tie warn by Mario Draghi at his ECB press conferences – red for bullish, blue for … not so much.
Yesterday, at his post BOJ announcement press conference, the first thing reported on was the colour of Kuroda’s tie … a nice light-blue, which, its said, indicated a light-hearted, optimistic mood.
…
OK, so what has reduced the usefulness of the indicator now?
Well, the world’s most important central banker doesn’t wear a tie, does she?
