Announcing a rate hike and actually doing it isn't as simple as it sounds

We're not off the rollercoaster yet

The $2.6 trillion parked at the Fed is a technical mountain to climb. There are many dark and not-so-dark corners of the internet that have been predicting the Fed will have a difficult time hiking rates.

Here are the five events to watch in the days ahead that will show whether or not they were right:

  1. 6:45 am ET on Thursday - The Libor fix
  2. 8 am ET - Repo rates will begin to update
  3. 9:30 am ET - Rates on commercial paper trade
  4. 1:15 pm ET - The NY Fed announces the results of its first overnight reverse repo
  5. 8 am ET on Friday - The first post-hike Fed funds effective rate is announced

More on those rates is here.
