We've got a busy agenda of Federal Reserve activity in the coming week, with speeches and the release of the March FOMC Minutes
- 6 April 2015 1230GMT - William Dudley, president of Federal Reserve Bank of New York & vice-chairman of the Federal Open Market Committee speech
- 7 April 1250GMT - Narayana Kocherlakota, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis speech
- 8 April 1330GMT - William Dudley speaks again
- 8 April also brings the release of the FOMC Minutes, for the meeting of March 17 and 18. Not many people know this, but if an FOMC meeting is held on March 17, St. Patricks Day, the subsequent announcement and Minutes are printed in green ink. Just for a lark, really, but it's a nice touch. Its only the hard copy that is printed in green ink (not the web version, but of course you can change the settings in your printer to get a green copy), and it quickly becomes a collectible. Oh, yeah, the Minutes are at 1800GMT. We'll have a preview of the Minutes on ForexLive as we get closer to the release date.
- 10 April 1230GMT - Jeffrey Lacker, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond spech
- 10 April 1620GMT - Kocherlakota speaks again
If you've been paying attention to what the various Fed officials have been saying in past weeks then you'll want to be listening this week - lets see specifically if Friday's miss on the employment report will have any impact on what they hint about the timing of the first rate rise (and subsequent hikes too, of course) .... or if Friday's miss will be attributed to the harsher than usual winter weather and the trend growth in employment said to be intact. (And, of course, other pertinent comments).
On the other hand, if you don't pay attention to what Fed officials say, perhaps you're a pure technical analyst ("Just the charts, ma'am"), then enjoy the week eating all that Easter chocolate!
