Dallas Fed chief Robert Kaplan comments in an interview with the FT
- Need to be attuned to the idea that the economy may look very different in 1H 2019 or even the middle of 2019 than it does today
- Fiscal stimulus has the effect of maybe masking some of these other developments
- Declines to say whether he would support a Fed rate hike this month
- Doesn't see argument for restrictive rate setting
With global growth starting to wane, the robustness of the US economy will certainly be called into question next year and even more so, the Fed's tightening cycle. Do take note that Kaplan isn't a voting member on the FOMC this year as we approach the final meeting later this month.
