Since the founding of the ECB, the chief economists post has gone to a German. The first was Otmar Issing, followed by Juergen Stark.
Stark just quit in protest over the continued ECB bond-buying program and is being replaced by Belgian Peter Praet. The new German appointee, Joerg Rasmussen will get the international relations portfolio, according to a Reuters headline.
