Its Bank of Japan announcement and statement day - there is no change to monetary policy expected, but the press conference ... expect some yen comments!
I've posted on previews and such already (oh, there is data out prior to the announcement too):
- Plenty coming from Japan today, data a focus and then BOJ (previews)
- Waiting on the BOJ announcement? Here is what time to set your alarm (sort of)
- Here is what's on the economic calendar in Asia today
Kuroda's news conference is at 0630 GMT. I've seen commentary on the presser saying there will be no change to the tone of Kuroda's remarks, but I've also seen expectations for perhaps a bit more:
focus at Kuroda's press conference
- on the correction of global financial markets since early February
- and yen appreciation versus the USD
- Kuroda may emphasize the BOJ is persisting with monetary easing
- could be questions about the nomination of Professor Masazumi Wakatabe of Waseda University, a well-known reflationist, as a BOJ deputy governor
Squint all you like, the inflation data ain't gonna be at 2% any time soon
