FRANKFURT (MNI) – The Bundesbank is confident that the U.S. will
introduce and apply Basel III banking rules even if there is a delay in
introducing the new banking regulation, Bundesbank board member Andreas
Dombret said Monday.
“I continue to expect that the U.S. will keep its word,” Dombret
said. He reminded that the U.S. had signed every single communique of
all the G20 meetings, and in every meeting the topic came up.
“I do not believe that you can deduce from the fact that the U.S.
did not introduce Basel II that it will now not introduce Basel III,”
Dombret said.
Dombret acknowledged a media report published earlier Monday that
said there could be a delay in the U.S. implementation of Basel III. He
said that while he was not in a position to confirm that, “it may not be
made up out of thin air.”
