Bank of England’s Kate Barker, quoted on the Leicester Mercury newspaper’s website, says she thinks UK interest rates could stay low for some time and it is still not clear whether the pick up in the economy will prove durable.
The official says “Our present view is that we think rates could stay low for quite some time” adding “the really important question is whether there’s a pick up in the economy and if people can sustain that so it continues on to autumn.”
Comments haven’t done cable any favours, presently down at 1.6340, off a full cent from earlier 1.6442 session high.
