Davos has been rife with denunciations of creeping US protectionism and now the US’s largest trading partner, Canada, is weighing in.
PM Harper says the policy of requiring only US-made steel to be used in infrastructure projects in the stimulus plan working its way through Congress are a serious concern. Harper says he expects the US to live up to its international obligations and that it is important to avoid protectionism during a global slowdown, as was agreed at the G20 meeting in November.
Obama is making his first foreign trip to meet Harper next week, I believe.
