I've counted about a billion responses and takes on the news that President Trump has fired FBI Director Comey
And that doesn't include the alien abduction theorists
As with all political news its difficult disentangling what is real and what is just partisan politics speaking.
Here are two takes from two different sides:
One, the Wall Street Journal with:
Comey's Deserved Dismissal
The FBI chief forfeited his credibility with his 2016 interventions.
WSJ is gated, but give it a try.
And, two, a different slant: Trump Fires Comey, the One Man Who Would Stand Up to Him
h/t and thanks for both of these to @gregorymckenna
Anyway ... what of the market response?
So far its been pretty much nothing. A minor wiggle here and there.
I often hear that markets have a 'delayed reaction' to news. In 99 cases out 100 (rule of thumb, I haven't done the stats ;-) ) the 'delayed reaction' explanation is rubbish. Markets live on a hair trigger.
Unless there are further developments and revelations (and, hey, there could well be) this news impact on markets is done.
Am I wrong? Comments welcome!
