Austrian central bank head Nowotny appears to be a master of understatement. He says that it is “not helpful” that there are a number of Eastern European countries without functioning governments. Nonetheless, Eastern Europe remains the region with the highest growth potential, he says.
Austrian banks are heavily exposed to Eastern Europe, so it is clearly in his interest that these countries have functioning governments and fast growth. Without them, Austria is potentially on the hook….
