The focus will be on China and sharemarkets there again today as the great financial crisis of January 2016 continues to unfold.

Seriously, have I got a future in scary headlines, or what?!!! We're all doomed!

Oh, wait, the Shanghai Composite closed higher yesterday? OK, then, I'll chill out a bit.

Here's what is coming up today:

  • 2230GMT - Australia - AiG Services PMI for December. Not a market mover. Prior was 48.2.
  • 0135GMT - Japan - Nikkei Services PMI and Composite PMI for December (priors of 51.6 and 52.3 respectively ... both looking more respectable but not generally much of an immediate forex market mover)
  • 0145GMT - China - Caixin Services PMI and Composite PMI for December (priors of 51.2 and 50.5 respectively). Not usually a big market mover, that honour goes to the manufacturing PMIs, but with heightened interest in all things China these will be noted .
  • Also at 0145GMT from China - Westpac / MNI Consumer Sentiment December, a very volatile data set indeed this one but not usually of much immediate market impact. Prior was 113.1
