FRANKFURT (MNI) – Eurozone consumer morale in October fell to its
lowest level in over two years, the European Commission reported, citing
preliminary estimates.
After declining 9.4 points between June and September, household
morale slipped 0.8 point further to -19.9, its worst level since August
2009.
Sentiment in September had lost ground, as consumers revised down
their personal financial outlook, as well as their assessment of the
economy as a whole.
Job fears, on the other hand, continued to be revised upwards in
September, while the proportion of consumers expecting prices to
maintain their upward trend fell slightly.
The final sentiment figure for October, along with the other
components of the Commission’s comprehensive sentiment survey, should be
released next week.
