PARIS (MNI) – Eurozone consumer sentiment improved markedly in July
after an upturn in June, according to the flash estimate released
Thursday by the European Commission.
After a one-point recovery in June, the sentiment index gained
another 3.2 points to -14.1, approaching its long-term average of -13.
The final figure will be released next week as a component of the
Commission’s comprehensive economic sentiment survey.
The upturn in June was driven by improved expectations for the
overall economy (+1 point) and receding jobless worries (-2 points). An
erosion in medium-term buying-propensity (+1 point) offset an
improvement in current plans for major purchases (-1 point).
