EU sanctions Belarus - says Belarus attacked the EU

Ursula von der Leyen is President of the European Commission

Referring to the Belarus hijacking of the Ryan air flight over the weekend:

  • Belarus sent an airforce Mig-29 fighter jet to intercept a European jetliner (a Ryanair flight), forcing it to perform an emergency landing in Minsk

Von der Leyen:

  • Belarus attacked European democracy
  • sanctions will target business
  • EU will deny access to EU airports from Belarus
