FRANKFURT (MNI) – Household morale morale in the Eurozone sank in
July to its lowest level in nearly three years, the European Commission
reported on Monday, citing preliminary figures.
Falling for the second consecutive month, July’s 1.8-point slide
brought the consumer sentiment indicator to -21.6, its weakest since
August 2009.
The decline in June was due in part to growing pessimism regarding
the economic outlook, as well as rising jobless fears, which offset
further improvement in buying propensity for large items and falling
inflation worries.
The final sentiment figure for July, along with the other
components of the Commission’s comprehensive economic confidence survey,
is scheduled for release on July 30th.
