After a rout on the open, equity markets are coming back to an extent. Goldman and Morgan Stanley are recovering sharply and AIG is off its lows. Markets are speculaing that the Fed to could arrange a short-term bridge loan to AIG along the lines of what was done for Bear Stears when JP Morgan acted as a conduit (before it ultimately bought the firm). If a large enough consortium can be put together to spread the risk, a deal could happen.
