Could the technical 'glitches' really be independent?

There is no timeline for when stocks will be reopen but there are index changes due at the close today so that complicates things. The NYSE is aiming for a 2:30 pm ET reopening.
Some of the excuses they're coming out with a sketchy. United said "the grounding had been caused by a computer-network router that malfunctioned, which disrupted its passenger reservations system."
The NYSE is blaming new software that they rolled out this morning.
