BRUSSELS (MNI) — No decisions on the short- or long-term European
crisis mechanism should be expected during this week’s meeting of
finance ministers in Brussels, German finance minister Wolfgang
Schaeuble said on Monday.
“There will be no results today,” Schaeuble said, adding that
recent market tensions had lessened, thereby taking the pressure off
todays meeting.
Schaeuble also noted that “currently, the [rescue] umbrella is not
under stress.”
While ministers will discuss Europe’s future crisis mechanism in
preparation for Marchs European Council meeting, Schaeuble warned that
any speculation about the outcome could create fresh market tensions.
On whether the EFSF could purchase government bonds, the German
minister refused to comment.
