FRANKFURT (MNI) – Germany’s President Christian Wulff today handed
to Jens Weidmann the letter of appointment for the presidency of the
Bundesbank, the German central bank said.

Weidmann’s appointment will be effective as of May 1 and will last
for eight years.

Wulff also formally dismissed Axel Weber from the post. Weber
announced earlier this year that he would step down at the end of April,
ending his presidency of the Bundesbank a year early.
