Germany and France would be singing a different tune if Greek leaders were calling the shots

The French and German economy ministers called for a common budgetary mechanism today in joint statements published in Europe's largest newspapers.

"It's time to strengthen the eurozone by way of the EU's biggest reform," they said.

Funny that it was those two countries flagrantly violating the Maastricht Treaty on deficits. If another crisis came along they would be changing or flouting the rules as well.

It will ultimately be a mechanism for the core to dictate policy to the periphery.
