BERLIN (MNI) – German GDP growth might exceed 3% again this year,
Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble suggested Thursday.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if we reached a 3 before the decimal
point,” Schaeuble told a banking conference here. The government’s
standing forecast is for GDP growth of 2.6% this year, he reminded.

“We can also expect a positive development next year, although with
lower growth rates,” the minister said.

Commenting on the sovereign debt crisis in the Eurozone, Schaeuble
said it is “necessary and right” to support fiscally ailing member
states. But private investors must also be involved in any rescue
measures, he stressed.

Asked if the euro will still be a stable currency in a few years
time, Schaeuble replied: “I would be more worried about the dollar.”
