No idea how to pronounce his surname (Vlee-ga, Vli-ga?).

BANK OF ENGLAND: APPOINTMENT OF DR GERTJAN VLIEGHE TO THE MONETARY POLICY COMMITTEE

Commenting on the Chancellor's appointment of Dr Gertjan Vlieghe to the Monetary Policy Committee, the Governor of the Bank of England, Mark Carney, said:

"I am delighted to welcome Gertjan Vlieghe as the new external member of the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee. Jan's insight, judgement and perspective will be invaluable to the committee in the coming years, and I very much look forward to working with him.

I also want to express my gratitude to David Miles who has served the MPC with dedication and distinction since joining in 2009. On behalf of the whole of the Bank I want to wish him well for the future."
