Greenspan is on CNBC saying the Fed should not as a matter of course bailout private industry but only under exigent and extreme circumstances (like today), bailouts like Bear and the GSEs are acceptable. Not a lot of controversy in those remarks which do little to answer the fundamental question as to where the line should be drawn. Like in a triage situation, who should be allowed to die? That is the key going forward. Lehman may be the test case, unfortunately.
