Just making note of this from a Reuters report

  • Honda ( in a joint venture with Dongfeng) will invest roughly 3 billion yuan ($436 million) in a new factory in China
  • Annual production capacity of 120,000 vehicles
  • The Dongfeng Honda venture, one of Honda's two JVs in China, is already nearing its capacity limits at its two existing factories, targeting sales of 450,000 vehicles for 2016 against current annual capacity of 480,000

This is interesting in itself, but I wanted to note it particularly in regards to a post I did earlier on Japanese firms becoming wary of the new US presidency.

This development will be unrelated to the new presidency I'd say (or if it is, it'd be only a marginal influence), but going forward I wonder how much focus will swing towards countries with a less confrontational approach to trading partners. (And yes, I am aware of the weirdness of saying China - Japan relations may be less hostile than US - Japan relations going forward .... but there you go).
