TOKYO (MNI) – The value of construction orders received by the 50
largest contractors in Japan rose 1.5% in December from a year earlier
to Y1.033 trillion, the third straight month of year-on-year gains, the
Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism said on Tuesday.
The December reading marked a sharp deceleration from rises of
21.0% in November and 24.3%in October.
The breakdown for the latest month follows:
— Domestic private sector: +5.8% y/y at Y698.9 billion, a third
straight rise.
— Public sector: -0.6% y/y at Y218.4 billion, a second straight
decline.
— Overseas: -17.1% y/y at Y76.3 billion, the first fall in two
months.
