TOKYO (MNI) – The value of construction orders received by the 50
largest contractors in Japan rose 24.6% in January from a year earlier
to Y744.9 billion, the fourth straight gain, the Ministry of Land,
Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism said on Wednesday.

The January reading accelerated from rises of 1.5% in December,
21.0% in November and 24.3%in October.

The breakdown for the latest month follows:

— Domestic private sector: +22.6% y/y at Y499.0 billion, a fourth
straight rise.

— Public sector: +39.0% y/y at Y172.7 billion, the first rise in
three months.

— Overseas: +40.8% y/y at Y39.9 billion, the first rise in two
months.
