TOKYO (MNI) – Japanese industrial production fell a revised 3.4% in
May from the previous month, worse than the preliminary reading of a
3.1% drop, data from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry showed
on Friday.
As in the preliminary result, May industrial output posted a second
straight drop after a 0.2% dip in April.
Last month, METI’s survey of firms showed that production is
expected to rise 2.7% m/m in June and by further 2.4% in July.
Compared with the year earlier level, production in May rose 6.0%,
revised down from the preliminary reading of +6.2%. Other details from
the latest data:
— Shipments: May revised -1.3% m/m (preliminary -1.5%) vs. Apr
+0.6%.
— Inventories: May revised -0.7% m/m (preliminary -0.6%) vs. Apr
+2.0%.
— The inventory-to-shipments ratio: May unrevised -3.7% vs. Apr
+6.9%.
— The capacity utilization ratio: May -2.2% m/m Vs Apr -0.6%.
