TOKYO (MNI) – Japanese industrial production rose a revised 2.2%
month on month in October, lower than the preliminary reading of +2.4%,
data from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry showed on
Wednesday.

Industrial output posted the first m/m rise in two months after
falling 3.3% in September and rising 0.6% in August. Production has
dropped twice so far this year.

Last month, METI’s survey of firms showed that production is
expected to fall 0.1% m/m in November — revised down sharply from the
1.8% gain estimated in the previous survey — before rising 2.7% in
December (first estimate).

Compared with the year earlier level, production in October rose
only 0.1%, revised down from the preliminary reading of +0.4%, after
falling 3.3% in September.

Shipments: Oct revised +0.2% m/m (preliminary +0.6%) vs. Sep -2.0%.

Inventories: Oct revised +0.9% (preliminary +0.8%) vs. Sep 0.1%.

The inventory-to-shipments ratio: Oct revised -0.9% (preliminary
-1.1%) vs. Sep +3.8%.

The capacity utilization ratio: Oct +4.1% m/m vs. Sep -3.6%.
