JAPAN PRESS: Some lawmakers in Japan’s coalition government are
calling for additional economic stimulus measures to fight deflation,
after the fiscal 2010 budget is approved by parliament, the Nikkei
reported. With the upper house election coming up this summer, the
ruling parties aim to show their resolve to support the economy with
measures to combat persistent deflation. Junior ruling bloc member
People’s New Party held a policy research council meeting Wednesday to
discuss whether to compile a supplementary budget totaling around Y7
trillion for the next fiscal year starting April 1.
