TOKYO (MNI) – The value of construction orders received by the 50
largest contractors in Japan fell 9.3% in September from a year earlier
to Y1.15 trillion, the first fall in six months, the Ministry of Land,
Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism said on Monday.

The September reading followed a 9.3% rise in August.

The breakdown for the latest month follows:

— Domestic private sector: -14.0% y/y at Y756.1 billion, the first
fall in six months.

— Public sector: +31.1% y/y at Y342.0 billion, the third straight
y/y gain.

— Overseas: -92.6% y/y at Y5.4 billion, the first drop in two
months.
