Last month 5.534M revised lower to 5.451M

The JOLTS job openings for the month of November came in at 5.522M vs 5.500M estimate. This is up slightly from the revised 5.451M from October (was 5.534M).

Over the month,, hires and separations were also little changed at 5.2 million and 5.0 million respectively.

WIthin separations,

  • Quits rate was unchanged at 2.1%
  • Layoffs and discharges were unchanged at 1.1%

Quits are generally voluntary separations initiated by the employee. As a result, the quits rate can serve as a measure of workers willingness to leave their job (they might feel confident about getting another job or may have gotten a new, higher paying job). The rate was unchanged in the current month.

Quits rate is near highs but steady.

The hires rate was 3.6%.

Overall, the report is steady, suggesting employment continues to grow.
