MNI has an interesting tidbit on non-farm payrolls.

They dug up the 1985 directive saying the President, via the President’s Council of Economic Advisers, will be given economic data before it’s released then asked the BLS when Obama will be given the payrolls data.

The BLS responded that the Council of Economic Advisers will be given the data this afternoon. Presumably, Obama will be briefed before tonight’s speech at the DNC.

Now, if Obama gets up there and says “the land is strong,” emphasizes the recovery and says jobs are coming back, you could read between the lines and buy USD/JPY.

But do it at your own risk.
