Some hope for those most vulnerable to the coronavirus
According to two people familiar with the finding, the Oxford coronavirus vaccine has produced a robust immune response in elderly people, FT reports.
That echoes findings from earlier data, which showed that the vaccine has had a positive response in a group of healthy adults aged between 18 and 55.
The latest development is said to likely be published in a clinical journal shortly.
That said, a positive immunogenecity test does not guarantee that the vaccine will ultimately prove to be safe and/or effective in older people. Such a conclusion will not be known until the full trial data for the age group has been analysed.
The full report by the FT can be found here (may be gated).
I guess that's some hopeful optimism but until we get much closer to the day a safe and effective vaccine is developed, this is just what it is - hope.
