LUXEMBOURG (MNI) – There is no reason for contagion from Hungary to
spread to other countries, Polish finance minister Jan Vincent-Rostowski
said on Tuesday.

Hungarian asset prices fell in recent days after the country’s
government said it was likely to miss targets for cutting its budget
deficit.

“The Polish economy is in a rather different class, having not
suffered a recession last year and having strong growth this year…
there is no reason for contagion,” Vincent-Rostowski told reporters as
he arrived for a meeting of European Union finance ministers in
Luxembourg.

Asked if market fears about Hungary could spread, he said: “I don’t
think so. I’m now quite confident that the Hungarian government will
take the measures that they need to.”
