South Korea has been voting in presidential elections 9 May
- Moon pledges to reform and unite the nation
- hopes today marks the opening of a new door for Korea
A landslide victory seemingly for pro-democracy former human rights lawyer and special forces soldier Moon Jae-in with 41.4% support, 18% ahead of his nearest challenger.
The election came after millions of South Koreans took to the streets in candlelit demonstrations to demand the removal of Park Geun-Hye, who was sacked by the country's top court in March over a corruption scandal and is now in custody awaiting trial.
Hats off to reader Lilac in the comments section for beating me to the post.
64-year old Moon takes over at a critical time in relations with North Korea. We can only hope he's up to the task but judging by his CV he seems more than capable.
Meanwhile USDJPY pushing on to 113.94. Decent option expiries at 114.00 lurking.
