Oh dear. Departing Transport Secretary Ruth Kelly, in an interview with the Evening Standard, has admitted that political concerns about Mr Browns’ Government DID contribute to her resignation from the Cabinet.
Kelly’s remarks are in contrast to the Prime Minister’s yesterday, when Brown went to great lengths to paint Kelly’s resignation as a purely personal matter (more time with the family etc etc.) This is rather embarassing for poor Gordon, just as he was enjoying a little afterglow from his speech at the Labour conference.
Kelly was also quick to heap praise onto Browns’ main challenger within the Labour party. She describes Foreign Secretary Miliband as “one of the great talents of the Cabinet-a star of the future-a real asset.”
