Details of the September 2015 US CPI inflation data report 15 October 2015

  • Prior +0.2%
  • -0.2% v s-0.2% exp m/m. Prior -0.1%
  • Core 1.9% vs 1.8% exp y/y

  • Real weekly earnings -0.2% vs +0.7% prior m/m
  • 2.2% vs 2.3% prior y/y

That's going to calm the nerves of inflation watchers, although the earnings numbers take some shine off

USDJPY runs to that first resistance line at 118.50 and manages 5 pips over before falling back. If the better core inflation print can't push it higher then that will spell trouble. Watch the secondary action

Energy unsurprisingly kept the weakness in the numbers and fell -4.7% on the month. Of that, gasoline fell 9.0%. It's now -18.4% against last year. Food moved up slightly 0.4% vs 0.2% prior
