S&P 500 closes down 6 points to 2078

Stocks trim losses late

The S&P 500 finished down 5.97 points to 2077.59 after falling as low as 2067. The market recovered about 7 points in the final hour of trading to turn a poor day into a modestly bad one.

Overall, the index fell 1.25% on the week. The Dow fell 1.8% and the Nasdaq lost 1.7%.
