No rest for the wicked after the political turmoil in Italy this week as Berlusconi’s fate begins to be decided in the Italian senate. A panel convenes today to decide whether bunga bunga will get the boot from the upper house over his tax fraud conviction.

Defenders have said that the rules to oust the convicted politician from the house came after his case came to light and therefore should not be applied retrospectively.

The panel have 48 hours to decide, but a vote may happen later today. If the vote goes against Berlusconi the final vote will be put forward to the entire senate in a few weeks.

Considering the numbers that turned against him from his own party this week, it’s hard to see him surviving the vote and this could be the beginning of the end for him. If the final vote enacts a ban it will be up to 6 years meaning the crook will be around 83 when he can be allowed back.

Whichever way it goes I can’t see it happening without him going kicking and screaming.
