Busy schedule coming up
Yellen and Brainard are the highlights today but releases on housing, manufacturing and consumers will keep markets moving all day.
There is no data at the usual time at the bottom of the hour so it's a slower start to the day but it kicks off from there:
- 1300 GMT - S&P Cash-Shiller US house price index. Probably not a market mover but something to whet the appetite
- 1330 GMT - Fed's Mester is a moderator on a panel
- 1400 GMT - the housing theme continues with August US new home sales. It could be skewed by Harvey
- 1400 GMT - the Conference Board consumer confidence data will probably be the big one at this time. The consensus is a tick lower to 120.00 from 122.9.
- 1400 GMT - Richmond Fed manufacturing expected at +13
- 1430 GMT - The Fed's Brainard speaks on labor market disparities. That sounds like a definite theme to touch on monetary policy but labor speeches tend to have a more dovish slant so that's a USD risk
- 1530 GMT - Fed's Bostic speaks in Atlanta. We don't know much about him yet so this could be a good primer
- 1600 GMT - French jobseekers. Not likely to be a euro mover.
- 1645 GMT - Yellen speaks on inflation, uncertainty and monetary policy.
- 1700 GMT - 2-year note auction
Buckle up, it's going to be a busy one. There are more details on the economic calendar.
