Saudi says he was killed after an altercation
Trump once again downplayed the possibility of US retribution for the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, saying he found Saudi Arabia's explanation credible.
Saudi officials finally admitted that Khashoggi was killed in the Saudi consulate in Turkey late on Friday, saying he died in some kind of fist fight.
No one believes it but Trump wants to preserve the US alliance with Saudi Arabia along with billions in US arms deals to the kingdom. Trump also called the killing 'unacceptable' and raised the possibility of sanctions.
Still, his early soft tone suggests that the White House won't be pushing for any lasting sanctions.
Meanwhile, Turkey continues to threaten to release more information.
"Turkey will reveal whatever had happened," said Omer Celik of Turkey's ruling AKP party, according to Anadolu news agency."Nobody should ever doubt about it. We are not accusing anyone in advance but we don't accept anything to remain covered [up]."
US Congress may also push for sanctions.
