Latest data released by Halifax - 8 May 2019
- Prior -1.6%; revised to -1.3%
- House prices +5.0% vs +4.5% 3m/y expected
- Prior +2.6%
Slight delay in the release by the source. House prices jump back up following a notable decline in the month of March and the yearly estimate continues to hold up well as Halifax notes the significant higher volume of London sales in February as well as more expensive new build properties as being reasons for that. The average house price is seen at £236,619.
Overall, housing market sentiment still remains somewhat subdued as demand and supply aren't really bursting with life with Brexit uncertainty continuing to cast dark clouds on the UK economy. Cable is trading near the lows for the day still at 1.3048 currently.
