LONDON (MNI) – UK mortgage approvals fell again in October, hitting
their lowest level since March last year, according to BBA data.
The number of seasonally adjusted mortgage approvals stood at
30,766 in October, down from 31,058 in September, a 0.9% fall. The
outturn was a little weaker than expected, with analysts’ median
forecast for a 31,000 outturn.
There was a pick-up in approvals for remortgaging, which rose to
24,112 in October from 23,797 in September, hitting their highest level
since March.
BBA Statistics Director David Dooks said: “Activity in the
mortgage and consumer credit markets continued to be subdued in October,
reflecting uncertain prospects for households and lower consumer
confidence.”
