Gordon Brown will make what is probably the biggest speech of his political career today as he addresses the party faithful at the Labour Party annual conference in Brighton. He needs to rally the party as they prepare for a General Election next year. A General Election must be called by June next year. At the moment according to polls the ruling Labour Party is 15 points behind the Conservative party and level with the Liberal-Democrats. This is not great news for the Conservative party either because if these polls rang true for the General Election it would only give them a 4 seat majority in the Houses of Parliament. In recent weeks Gordon Brown has come under criticism from both within and outside his Party and has been described by some as a “dead man walking” a reference to rumours that he is on anti-depressants. He is due to address the Party this afternoon (UK time).
