–UK Sep House Prices Up 0.2% m/m; Up 7.0% y/y
LONDON (MNI) – House prices in England and Wales posted their fifth
consecutive small monthly rise in September, according to the latest
LSL/Acadametrics report, which runs counter to the spectacular fall seen
in the high profile Halifax survey for September.
The September LSL/Acadametrics survey reported house prices up 0.2%
on the month and up 7.0% on the year, having come in up 0.3% on the
month and up 8.3% on the year in August. Over the past six months in the
LSL/Acadametrics series house prices have risen, on average, just 1.0%.
The UK housing market “in terms of average prices is flat
with little evidence of the normal autumnal bounce with buyers and
sellers moving in numbers to transact well before the Christmas season,”
Peter Williams, Acadametrics chairman said.
Acadametrics expects house price inflation to evaporate as the year
goes on.
“We anticipate that some, but not all, of the regions in England
and Wales will be showing falling prices on an annual basis by December
2010,” Williams said.
The Halifax survey, published Thursday, showed house prices fell
by an all time record 3.6% on the month in September, with prices up
just 2.6% in the three months through September on a year ago.
The LSL/Acadametrics September figures are derived from an “index
of indices” model, rather than relying on new house price data.
