The Conference Board reports that the Consumer Confidence Index rose to 59.8 from an August reading of 58.5. Consumers who said current business conditions were bad rose to 34.2 from 32.7, while those who saw conditions as good fell to 12.5 from 13.7. Consumers expecting business conditions to worsen over the next 6 months fell to 21.3 from 25.2. It would be interesting to see how respondants would reply today after yesterdays’ fun and games.
